Non-repertory Theater in the Performing Art of Kyiv at the End of the 20th – the Beginning of the 21st Century

The purpose of the article is to reveal the state of cultural and artistic activity of non-repertory theaters of Kyiv. The research methodology was based on the principle of the cultural-historical approach, which allowed for highlighting the main directions of cultural and artistic activity of non-repertory theaters of Kyiv at the present stage and finding out the forms and ways of positioning various theatrical brands, as well as the classification method, which helped to categorize independent theatrical organizations according to the form of subordination. The scientific novelty of the work lies in the first attempt to conduct a detailed research into the non-repertory form of theatrical art, generalize the experience of predecessors regarding the existing problem, and provide a comprehensive picture of non-repertory theaters, their formation, classification and modifications. Conclusions. It was revealed that non-repertory theater occupies an important place in the cultural environment of domestic independent theaters. The forms of existence of various independent theatrical units were studied. The specifics of forming the repertoire and theatrical companies, as well as ways of positioning theatrical brands, were highlighted. On the basis of the conducted research, the classification of independent theatrical organizations according to the form of subordination was updated based on their division into independent theater-studios, independent art projects, independent theaters, and non-repertory theaters
