A Study To Evaluate The Effectiveness of Structured Teaching Programme On Knowledge Regarding Cataract Among Patients Undergoing Cataract Surgery in Jayabharat Hospital, Nellore, Andhra Pradesh

The eye is an invaluable sensory organ that is responsible for gathering visual stimuli to assist individuals in communicating with the world around them. Elderly are commonly affected with loss of vision and visual impairment. Most of them that are That is expanded productivity, great power factor, expanded power thickness and great unique execution make PMSM very practical for SWP, while the elderly age group comprise about 20 % of the world's population. As there was increasing elderly population in many countries, most of the elderly will be at risk of age-related visual impairment. Many studies has revealed that 45 million blind persons in the World, out of this 12 million blind people live in India. The present study aimed to assess the effectiveness of Structured Teaching Programme on Knowledge regarding Cataract among patients undergoing cataract surgery. A pre-experimental one group pretest-posttest design was selected. Non probability convenience sampling was used to select the 100 samples. Patients undergoing cataract surgery were population of this study. The participants were selected from Jayabharat Hospital, Nellore. The standardized tools were used to collect the data. It included 35 multiple choice questions regarding cataract. The tool was validated by various experts from medical and surgical department. In the pilot investigation, 10 samples were used. The same questionnaire was used for the posttest, which was done seven days after instruction to assess the quality of the instruction. Statistics that are both descriptive and inferential were used to analyse the data. The difference between pre-test and post-test knowledge scores were evaluated by using paired‘t’ test. The paired‘t’ value was 19.7050 at 0.05 level of significance. This has shown that there was a significant difference between pre test and post test knowledge scores. Investigator was used chi square test to know the association between knowledge scores and selected demographic variables. This was demonstrated by the 0.05 level of significance association between knowledge scores and a chosen demographic variable like education. Based on study findings, the researcher concluded that there was a need to educate the public regarding cataract and its prevention. This study was taken to prove the effectiveness of teaching methods to improve knowledge among cataract patients.
