Traditional Rulers and Land Dispute Resolution in Enugu State, Nigeria

The study considered the roles and challenges of traditional rulers in the management of land disputes in Enugu State. The states sole ownership and administration of land in Nigeria has become very challenging for it's micro management at the community level. The traditional rulers resolves domestic/communal disputes at community level but lacks the power to lawfully manage land. However, disputes at the community levels in Enugu State are usually land disputes; access or ownership issues. The traditional leaders ensures peace and the continued existence of communities in the midst of multifarious land conflicts through mediation. However, his decision is not always binding because they weren't constitutionally equipped with the powers to do so. Having proved that they have the abilities to administer justice at the grassroots level, they should be constitutionally enabled to effectively and decisively act on land matters
