DIFFERENT TRIBES OF ASSAM AND THEIR INDIGENOUS KNOWLEDGE IN PROMOTING SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT IN SAARC COUNTRIES

Indigenous knowledge is the knowledge of indigenous people which they keep transferring from one generation to other. This knowledge has a vast area and scope that can help us to achieve the goal of sustainable development. In India, Assam consist of 12.4% of tribal population of our country which is a major part and their knowledge of traditional medicines, farming, household activities etc. has shown us a path to develop such methods that will help us to attain sustainability. The objective of this study is to motivate us to think of natural remedies for nurturing our nature and to fight the challenges we are facing due to climate change. Methodology used in this study is secondary data collection through journals, research paper, blog etc. that helped us to collect the knowledge present in different sources and present it in one paper. The findings of this study revealed that major tribal people of Assam Mishing, Bodo, Karbi, Rabha, Tiwa, Kachari, Garo and Dima Hasao have a vast amount of knowledge regarding natural vegetation and they are able to conserve, preserve and manage these resources without causing any trouble to the climate, rather enhancing its quality. Their lifestyle that is dependence on forest for their livelihood, worshiping nature, using traditional approach in everything, women using traditional approach for making clothes are worth mentioning. If this knowledge can be transferred to common people and moreover research is done in this field it will surely help us to fight the climate crisis we are facing now
