Ecology & Biodiversity of Himalaya

Ecology is the study of organisms and how they interact with the environment around them. An ecologist studies the relationship between living things and their habitats. Biodiversity supports habitats for all species by providing many unique environments in which species can exist; these include ecosystems of all types and sizes, rare ecosystems, and corridors between habitats. Ecology is the branch of science that examines the relationships organisms have to each other and to their environment. Scientists who study those relationships are called ecologists. There are many different ways to study ecology. Some types are landscape ecology, population ecology, and behavioural ecology. The Himalayan ecosystem is vital to the ecological security of the Indian landmass, through providing forest cover, feeding perennial rivers that are the source of drinking water, irrigation, and hydropower, conserving biodiversity. The Himalayan mountain system provides ecosystem services that support agricultural production, water security, and clean energy development down stream. The present book entitled “Ecology and Biodiversity of Himalaya” is the collection of research papers on ecology and biodiversity of Himalayan region. Most of the research papers deals with the thorough study of the region shows a great diversity in topography, climate and distribution of biological organism (flora and fauna). It is hoped that the present edited book covers various aspects of ecology, phytogeography, zoogeography and biodiversity of Himalayan flora and fauna and it will be of immense useful to the students, academicians, researchers and science book lovers engaged in the documentation of biological diversity of India particularly deals with the Himalayan ecology and biodiversity. This edited book entitled, “Ecology and Biodiversity of Himalaya” is a collection articles and research papers presented by the students, scholars and experts of the field.
