Nitromethane as a Polar Solvent : Part IV Solvolytic and Metathetical Reactions

Antimony (V), titanium (IV), tin (IV), tellurium (IV), zirconium (IV), aluminium (III), iron (III), and arsenic (III) chlorides have been solvolysed in nitromethane. Sodamide and various metal hydrides have also been solvolysed and solvolysed products have been isolated. A few matathetical reactions have also been carried out. These reactions have been explained on the basis of the autoionization of nitromethane as 2CH3NO2 \(\rightleftharpoons\) CH2NO2— +CH3NO2H
