Triterpenoids. XXXIX. The Constitution of Barrinic Acid- A New Triterpene Acid from Barringtonia acutangula Gaertn

Department of Chemistry, Bose Institute, Calcutta-9 Received 14 January 1972 The isolation of a new triterpene acid called Acid-A from the branch wood of Barringtonia acutangula Gaertn was reported in our preliminary communication and it was shown to be 2,3,19-trihydroxyolean-12-ene-23 (or 24), 28-dioic acid. Further studies on the constitution of this acid, now called barrinic acid (Ia), is reported here
