Stenichnus (Stenichnus) totoroides Jałoszyński 2023, sp. n.

Stenichnus (Stenichnus) totoroides sp. n. (Figs 6–10) Type material studied. Holotype (TAIWAN): ♁, two labels: “TAIWAN Pingtung / Hsien, Peitawushan / Kuai-Ku Hut 2130m / 27.IV.1992 / A. Smetana [T101]” [white, printed], “ STENICHNUS (s. str.) \ totoroides m. \ P. Jałoszyński, 2023 \ HOLOTYPUS ” [red, printed] (MHNG). Paratypes (2 exx.): 2 ♀♀, “TAIWAN Kaohsiung / Hsien, Kuanshan trail / above Kaunshanchi / Riv. 2650 m 21.IV.92 / A.Smetana [T95]” (paratypes with yellow “ PARATYPUS ” labels, deposited in MHNG and cPJ). Diagnosis. Body length not reaching 2 mm; base of pronotum with transverse row of 8–10 slightly unevenly distributed small pits interrupted at middle by narrow impunctate gap; punctures on head small but distinct and distributed mainly on areas posteromesal to supraantennal tubercles, on pronotum inconspicuous, fine, on elytra distinct but shallow and with diffuse margins; profemur in male unmodified; antennae in both sexes with antennomere 11 much shorter than 9 and 10 combined and 1.6–1.7 times as long as broad; aedeagus in ventral view with broadly subtriangular apex and pair of unbranched lateral rod-like sclerites curved mesally. Description. Body of male (Fig. 6) strongly convex, dark brown with distinctly lighter tarsi and palps, covered with setae slightly lighter than cuticle; BL 1.73 mm. Head broadest at eyes, HL 0.28 mm, HW 0.38 mm; tempora in dorsal view slightly shorter than eyes and evenly rounded, strongly converging posteromesally; vertex and frons confluent, together weakly convex; each eye strongly convex, indistinctly oval, finely faceted. Punctures on vertex and frons mainly fine and inconspicuous except for a few distinct punctures posteromesad each supraantennal tubercle; setae short, sparse and suberect. Antennae slender, AnL 0.93 mm, antennomeres 1–7 each elongate, 8 as long as broad, 9 and 10 each indistinctly transverse, 11 much shorter than 9 and 10 combined, 1.6–1.7 times as long as broad. Pronotum broadest near anterior 1/4–1/5; PL 0.48 mm, PW 0.50 mm. Anterior margin broadly rounded, anterior corners indistinctly marked, broadly rounded, lateral margins strongly rounded in anterior half, posteriorly weakly sinuate; posterior corners obtuse-angled, blunt; posterior margin weakly arcuate. Base of pronotum with transverse row of 8–10 unevenly distributed small pits disrupted at middle by narrow gap. Punctures on pronotal disc inconspicuous, fine; setae moderately long, sparse and suberect. Elytra together oval, broadest slightly in front of middle; EL 0.98 mm, EW 0.78 mm, EI 1.26; humeral calli distinct but weakly demarcated from disc, basal impression on each elytron large, deep, nearly circular; elytral apices separately rounded. Punctures much more distinct than those on pronotum but small, shallow and with diffuse margins, those on anterior half of elytra separated by spaces subequal to diameters of punctures; setae thicker and longer than those on head and pronotum, moderately dense, suberect. Legs long and slender, unmodified. Aedeagus (Figs 7–10) in ventral view stout, with basal capsular region subequal in length to apical region, which is gradually narrowed towards broadly subtriangular apex; diaphragm oval, adjacent to base of median lobe; ventral wall with pair of lateral projections with rounded apices; endophallus with pair of permanently everted lateral sclerites curved toward midline of median lobe; parameres nearly reaching apex of median lobe, each distinctly broadened in apical region and bearing several apical and subapical setae of various lengths. AeL 0.40 mm. Female. Externally indistinguishable from male. BL 1.88–1.90 mm; HL 38 mm, HW 0.38 mm, AnL 0.88–0.90 mm; PL 0.48–0.50 mm, PW 0.50 mm; EL 1.05–1.10 mm, EW 0.80–0.85 mm, EI 1.29–1.31. Distribution. Taiwan. Etymology. The adjective totoroides refers to the similarity of this species to S. totoro. Remarks.
