Pandrosos proximus Mermudes & Napp New species Figs 1,3 Description. Male. Integument mostly orangish. Antennae black, segments from 6 yellowish at base. Forelegs yellowish; intermediate and hind legs black to brownish with femora peduncles yellowish. Urosternites black to brown. Head glabrous. Frons and vertex opaque, with moderately deep, irregularly sparse punctures, denser on vertex. Clypeus shiny, sparsely punctate. Genae finely, shallowly punctate. Antennal scape somewhat inflated dorsally, with shallow, fine, sparse punctures. Segments from 3 opaque, microcorrugate, with very short, inconspicuous pubescence, 3–5 sparsely setose beneath. Segment 3 as long as 5, barely longer than each the scape and segment 4; 6–8 equal in length and slightly longer than 3; 11 as long as 3. Prothorax conspicuously narrowed to apical third from middle, particularly from middle to base, subtuberculate on each side just behind middle. Pronotum and sides of prothorax strongly opaque, glabrous, coarsely, very shallowly reticulate-punctate. Median callosity of pronotum, narrow, more or less acute; laterobasal gibbosities more or less prominent. Basal 2 / 3 of prosternum subopaque, glabrous, with shallow, dense, moderately coarse punctures. Metasternum and urosternites subopaque, glabrous, impunctate; fifth urosternite truncate at apex. Elytra slightly sinuous at middle. Punctation more or less aligned in rows at middle third; base and apical third with finer, irregularly spaced punctures. Lateral costa above epipleura extending from behind humeri to apical third. Epipleura strongly impressed, with single row of coarse, deep, subcontiguous punctures at middle third; base smooth, impunctate; apical third with finer, irregularly spaced punctures. Outer margin with few, nearly inconspicuous setae at apex, without asperities. Elytral apices transversely truncate, bispinose; outer spine as long as antennal pedicel, sutural spine little shorter. Female. Similar to male. Antennae unicolorous, black to brownish, reaching apical third of elytra; segments 6–10 shortened, equal in length, 7–11 somewhat swollen; 11 shorter than 3. Metafemora not reaching elytral apex. Urosternites orangish; fifth urosternite longer than in male, slightly rounded at apex. Measurements, mm, male/female, respectively. Total length, 5.4–6.8 / 5.7–6.7; prothorax length, 1.3–1.6 / 1.4–1.7; prothorax width at apex, 0.8–0.9 / 0.9 –1.0; prothorax width behind middle, 0.8–0.9 / 0.9–1.1; prothorax width at base, 0.9 –1.0/ 0.9–1.1; elytral length, 3.8–4.3 / 3.9–4.8; humeral width, 1.0– 1.2 / 1.1–1.3. Types. Holotype male, from BRAZIL, Mato Grosso: Barra do Bugres, X. 1984, P. Magno col. (MNRJ). Paratypes, same data of holotype: 7 males, 3 females (MNRJ), 4 males, 2 females (DZUP); male, female, X. 1984, B. Silva col. (MNRJ). Remarks. Pandrosos proximus sp. nov. differs from P. phtisicus by: 1) antennae: segment 4 slightly shorter than each 3 and 5, which are equal in length; in males, segments from 6 yellowish at base, 6–8 slightly longer than 5; in females, antennae reaching the apical third of the elytra with the outer segments shortened and somewhat swollen; 2) prothorax strongly narrowed at apical third and behind middle; 3) elytra: punctures, at middle third, more or less aligned in rows; elytral apices transversely truncate and bispinose, outer spine as long as the antennal pedicel; lateral costa extending from behind humeri to near apex; 4) epipleura with single row of punctures, except at base and apex; 5) outer margin of elytra practically without setae or asperities; 6) females with outer segments of antennae unicolorous and urosternites orangish. In both sexes of P. phtisicus, the antennal segments are unicolorous; segment 3 is more than twice as long as segment 4 and about ¼ longer than 5; in males, segments 6 to 8 are about ¼ longer than 5; in females the antennae are almost as long as the body, with outer segments decreasing in length and not swollen. The prothorax is less narrowed at sides.
