Neotrichia paidegua Neto & Ribeiro & Passos 2021, sp. nov.

Neotrichia paidegua sp. nov. Figs 4A–4D Diagnosis. This species does not fit well into any of the species groups of Marshall (1979) as defined by Keth et al. (2015). Although the tubular phallus without any sclerotized projections resembles that of the N. okopa group, the male genitalia of N. paidegua sp. nov. do not have the pair of sclerotized apicolateral extensions of segment IX and the small projection at or near the mid-dorsal margin of each inferior appendage, typical of the N. okopa Group. The male of Neotrichia paidegua sp. nov. resembles Neotrichia pequenita Botosaneanu 1977 by segment IX being produced anterad mesolaterally, by tergum X being incised in dorsal view, and by the spatulate pair of bracteoles. The new species can be easily distinguished by segment X not wrapping ventromesad around the subgenital plate (Fig. 4A), by the inferior appendages being long and slender (Figs 4A, 4B, ia), and by the phallus apex lacking hooks (Fig. 4D). Description. Male (in alcohol): Dark brown with length of each forewing 1.8 mm (holotype and 1 paratype). Postoccipital setal warts pronounced, large, ovoid. Antennae each with 18 articles; scape normal, cylindrical, slightly longer than pedicel; flagellomeres each as long as pedicel, cylindrical. Maxillary palp formula I-II-IV-III-V (shortest to longest), first two articles extremely short, shorter than wide. Mesoscutellum anterior margin convex; metascutellum convexly subtriangular. Sternum VII with apicomesal process. Male genitalia. Segment IX arising from within segment VIII, with pair of dorsal setal lobes (Figs 4A, 4C, dsl); anterolateral margins produced anterad at midheight in lateral view (Fig. 4A); anterodorsal margin concave in dorsal view (Fig. 4C); anteroventral margin V-shaped in ventral view (Fig. 4B); posterolateral margins membranous and slightly sinuous. Segment X membranous, fused with dorsum of segment IX, in lateral view, tapered to rounded apex (Fig. 4A); in dorsal view, with deep mesal incision, forming pair of rounded lateral lobes (Fig. 4C). Subgenital plate, in lateral view, with long anteroventral rod and posteromesal process directed ventrad; in ventral view, wide basally, with preapical constriction and subrectangular apex flanked by pair of long setae (Figs 4B, 4C, sg). Bracteoles setose and clavate in lateral view (Fig. 4A, br); in dorsal and ventral views, setose and spatulate (Figs 4B, 4C, br). Inferior appendages long, slender, tapering apically (Figs 4A, 4B, ia). Phallus slender distally; apical portion membranous, tubular; paramere surrounding shaft and extending short distance posterad (Fig. 4D, pr); ejaculatory duct sclerotized extending to apex of phallus (Fig. 4D, ed). Female, larva, pupa, and egg. Unknown. Holotype male. Paratype. 1 male, same data as holotype (alcohol; UERR). Distribution: Brazil (Pará, type locality only). Etymology. The epithet “paidegua” refers to the popular oral statement used by the inhabitants of Pará State, “Pai-d’égua” (= This is really good!), to emphasize that the object of the pronoun (this) is especially good.
