The Coinage of Sparta. S. Grunauer’s work gave the overall picture of Spartan coinage. However, soon after the publication of her book, it became clear that, for the early period, some anomalies needed to be rectified. The present article explores the possibility of achieving a more historically accurate picture of the production of Lacaedemonian coinage, based on more recent numismatic research and my own work in Laconia and on Hellenistic Sparta. Some coins need to be attributed to the 146-148 AD period, curiously absent from S. Grunauer’s classification.
