Les faubourgs de Courtrai et des Reignaux à Lille en 1604. Contribution à l'histoire socio-topographique d'un espace sub-urbain.

The Lille Suburbs of Courtrai and the Reignaux in Lille in 1604. Contribution to the Socio-Topographical Study of a Sub-urban Area. The municipal records of Lille contain a register made in 1604 for the levy of the hundredth tax in the Courtrai and the Reignaux suburbs. It tells us about the situation of these suburbs before the upheavals introduced by the 1617-1621 extension. One finds in it, beside the major thoroughfares, which, for the most part, still exist, secondary roads and footpaths erased by the fortification works or urban growth. One can make out islets of more or less dense habitat, but also continuous lines of dwellings. One can discover the inhabitants and their trades, craftmen essentially in the textile activity but also in activities banned from the town because of the potential hazards they represented for other inhabitants : tan-yards, furnaces, pottery works ; areas of conviviality like inns and gambling places ; and, further away towards the outside, the gardens and country seats, then farming activities. One gets a clearer idea of the landlords and their tenants, many of whom inhabited « yards », ancestors of the « courées ».Les archives municipales de Lille contiennent un cahier dressé en 1604 pour la perception de l'impôt du centième dans les faubourgs de Courtrai et des Reignaux. Il nous fait connaître l'état de ces faubourgs avant les bouleversements introduits par l'agrandissement de 1617-1621. On y trouve, outre les voies de communication principales qui, pour la plupart, subsistent toujours, des chemins secondaires et des piedsentes gommés par la fortification ou l'urbanisation. On discerne des îlots d'occupation plus ou moins dense, mais aussi des lignes continues d'habitations. On découvre les habitants et leur métier, l'artisanat surtout textile mais également des activités interdites en ville à cause des risques qu'elles faisaient courir : tanneries, fourneries, poteries ; les lieux conviviaux comme les auberges et les établissements de jeu ; et, en s 'éloignant vers l'extérieur, les jardins et les maisons de plaisance, puis les activités agricoles. On se fait une idée plus précise des propriétaires et des locataires dont beaucoup occupent des « cours », ancêtres des courées.De Rijselse voorsteden « Courtrai » en Reignaux in 1604. Het stadsarchief van Rijsel bewaart een bundel opgesteld in 1604 met het oog op de inning van de « honderste » in de voorsteden van Courtrai en Reignaux. Hij omvat een beschrijving van deze wijken voor de grote bouwcampagne tijdens de stadsuitbreiding in 1617-1621. Men vindt er de grote uitvalswegen, die vrijwel nog allemaal bestaan, secundaire wegen en paden die verdwenen zijn wegens de aanleg van forten of wegens de urbanisatie. Men vindt min of meer dicht bewoonde blokken maar ook lintbebouwing. De bewoners waren actief in de textiel en oefenden soms ook beroepen uit die in de stad verboden waren wegens het gevaar : leerlooierij, ovens van allerlei aard. Er waren velerlei herbergen en naar de buiten toe tuinen en buitenhuizen, naast agrarische ruimten. Men krijgt zo een precieser beeld van de bewoners, eigenaars of huurders, van de « cours » (gangen) die mettertijd « courées » werden.Lesage Christiane.
