In 1940, the inhabitants of the Nord saw the dramas of the Occupation which they had known between 1914 and 1918 re-emerge. This accounts for their massive exodus. This paper aims at reconstructing the traumas of the first world conflict and at seeing how, between 1918 and 1939, the memory of the «Grande Guerre» prolonged them. How is it possible to live again such a drama twenty years later, how is it possible to resist ?
