Christian Topography of Arras in the VIth Century. The Vita Vedasti and the Archaeological Data. For more than ten years, the archaeological excavations carried out by Mr. Alain Jacques in the very heart of the ancient Roman city, have allowed to unearth the Lower-Empire fortification wall, a cult site attributed to Attys and, on the location where the Cathedral Church stood before it was levelled down by the French Revolution, the remains of the late Antiquity ecclesia. These elements throw a new light on the roading of the Vita Vedasti (in its first version) and lead us to a possible interpretation of the data collected in the course of the excavation : the Lower-Empire fortified city, the ecclesia, the domus episcopi, the oratorium.
