Famars : les fouilles de la parcelle AC69 premier bilan

The projected building of a large scale residential area was at the origin of the launching in 1979 of a program of preventive diggings, which have now brought evidence of the extension of the Famars vicus and the entanglement of its habitat. While as yet the road system was completely unknown, the discovery of a cobbled pathway allows a better understanding of the organisation and distribution of housing in this part of the antique urban centre. Two superimposed buidings were excavated along that pathway. The first one ran parallel to the pathway, though in a rather remote position, and was replaced in a later period by a much wider building, the latter foundations being laid at an old angle with the former. It is in a hypocaust of thar second building that were collected some remarkable mural paintings of the late and century or of the beginning of the next century.C'est un vaste projet de constructions résidentielles, dans le secteur nord-est de Famars, qui est à l'origine de la mise en place en 1979 d'un programme de recherches préventives. Ces fouilles mettent en évidence l'étendue du vicus gallo-romain de Famars et la complexité des habitats qui le composent. Alors que la voirie était totalement inconnue, la découverte d'un chemin empierré permet de mieux comprendre l'organisation et la répartition de l'habitat dans ce secteur de l'agglomération antique. Deux bâtiments superposés furent mis au jour en bordure de la voie. Le premier, construit parallèlement au chemin et légèrement en retrait, fut remplacé dans un second temps par un édifice beaucoup plus vaste dont les fondations furent désaxées par rapport aux précédentes. De opgravingen hebben de uitgestrektheid van de gallo-romeinse vicus van Famars en de verscheidenheid van de woontoestanden aan het licht gebracht. Waar het oude wegennet geheel onbekend was, heeft de ontdekking van een verhardeweg klaarheid gebracht in de organisa- tie en de spreiding van de woningen in dit deel van de antieke agglomérat ie. Men ontdekte ook langs deze weg een gebouw dat op een ander stond. Het eerste werd op een zekere afstand evenwijdig met de antieke weg gebouwd, maar naderhand vervangen door een veel groter bouwsel met anders gerichte funderingen. In een hypocaustum van het tweede gebouw heeft men merkwaardige wandschilderirigen van het einde van de ne eeuw of het begin van de IIIe ontdekt.Beaussart Philippe.
