What linguistic training for primary school teachers ? Marie-Laure ELALOUF, IUFM de Versailles - Université Paris 10 Nanterre and Josiane LE GOFF, IUFM de Versailles. Whilst French syllabuses point out the need to gain a command of the language both in primary and secondary education, it seems that current students lack points of reference both when they produce oral and written work and, from a theoretical point of view, when they start at IUFM. The procedure therefore consisted in showing the type of linguistic knowledge that a future primary school teacher requires to help his / her pupils to gain a command of speech, to make best use of their work and to help them build up a knowledge of the language.
