The author sets her topic at the crossroads of politics and education. She deliberates on the state of democracy (as she perceives it) in the school, and proposes to demonstrate that the level of democracy that has been reached in politics has yet to be achieved in the school. To this end she analyzes the school system with respect to two basic complimentary rules of political democracy. First she shows that education is forced into a single model based on uniformity and to illustrate her observations she uses the Procrustean bed metaphor.
