ABSTRACT. A pilot project was conducted at a secondary school in which computers were used extensively in the teaching of mathematics at the grade nine level. In this paper, the progress in mathematics of the students involved is compared to that of matched students in another school who did not use computers. All student tests and exams were collected during the school year from both groups, and analyzed. Gender appears to be a factor in the differences noted in results, but other factors, including attitude and type of software used, may also play a role. RÉSUMÉ.
