Many children who experience learning difficulties in school are diagnosed to be suffering from Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD). In some cases amphetamines are prescribed to correct the disorder. It is assumed that once the child's attention is under control, the child will find it easier to learn. The attentional disorder is believed to stem from a neurochemical imbalance in the brain. Amphetamines are thought to correct the imbalance. The ethical issue of using drugs to correct learning problems is discussed. The efficacy of such a procedure is also debated.
