Are we asking the school to assume too great a responsibility for the educational and social development of our youth? Should the school limit itself to certain fundamental responsibilities? If yes, which ones? Who should assume those responsibilities for which the school will no longer be responsible? This article takes an historical approach to examine the sociopolitical changes of the last three decades that were instrumental in shaping Quebec schools.
