EXPLORING RELATIONSHIPS AMONG BURNOUT, CONCUSSION-RELATED OUTCOMES, AND HEALTH-RELATED QUALITY OF LIFE IN INDIVIDUALS WITH A CONCUSSION HISTORY

The purpose of this study is to explore the relationship between burnout symptoms, concussion-related outcomes and health-related quality of life in individuals 18-30 years old with a concussion history and organized sport participation history within the last five years. This study, part of a larger parent study, included the following aims: demonstrate the relationship among burnout, key clinical concussion outcomes and HRQOL, estimate the associations among burnout symptoms and clinical concussion outcomes and HRQOL. Participants completed surveys that assessed demographics, burnout symptoms, concussion symptoms, and HRQOL followed by clinical assessments for balance performance, vestibular/ocular function, and exertion tolerance. Bivariate correlations indicated significant correlations between burnout symptoms and HRQOL measures. Separate linear regression models demonstrated significant associations between burnout symptoms and anxiety, depression and social participation. Understanding the complex relationship between burnout symptoms, concussion outcomes and HRQOL measures in individuals with a concussion history can inform concussion baseline and post-injury assessments.Master of Art
