This paper presents a summary of the excavations fulfilled in 2007 on a seashore site of the Bourail region, on the west coast of New Caledonia’s main Island (Grande Terre). The excavation of the “ Écrins de Poé” location (WBR047) was aimed to contribute to the study of a poorly known phase of the cultural chronology of this Island of Southern Melanesia, spanning the time-period between the end of the first millennium BC and the beginning of the first millennium AD. The opening of a series of trenches as well as some spatial excavations, have allowed to identify a number of major stratigraphic differences between the different areas.
