In this paper, I will analyze the evolution of the mastery of the skill to distinguish knowledge, beliefs and opinions, as well as the improvement of tolerance between year 12 students in science. The practice of debate makes it possible to work these two notions. Improvement in register distinction and tolerance were assessed through the use of various assessments and questionnaires. These revealed that debates are an interesting tool to work on the skill however, not ideally adapted. On the other hand, it was shown that debates allow student to improve their tolerance.
