Zygmunt Jedryka : The enlightenment in Poland. This article reviews the reforms and the development of a new spirit in Poland, in particular after the accession of Stanislas Augustus Poniatowski in 1764. In the field of government he attempted to remove the abuses of the liberum veto to enable the introduction of necessary reforms. Education was reformed with the introduction of elementary public schooling and the Ordonances of 1753 which modernised the syllabus and favoured the creation of en educated élite. The development of the arts, a national literature and theatre together with foreign influences and their political importance, are also studied.Jedryka Zygmunt. Les Lumières en Pologne.
