Transformations in the Carthagenian landscape following the siphoning off of the tage into the Segura. The siphoning off of water from the river Tage into the Segura river basin and towards the hot ant dry Carthagenian region of Eastern Spain has reduced the problems engendered by an hydraulic deficit. This has induced sudden changes in the rural landscape as the introduction of new farming methods was preceded and accompanied by a new network of irrigation canals and service roads : cereal farming with fallow being replaced by the intensive production of fruit and vegetables.
