Copper and silver mining at Banca (Pyrenees Atlantiques) : a first approach to a mining network. The Banca mines in the Basque country were from an early date exploited for their copper and silver beds. Amongst the works carried out in the 18. century, other works are to be found that have been identified thanks to a general map established in 1782 on which they are represented on a sketch drawn by a team of speleologists. Those antique works recognizable through their morphology were attributed by the Moderns to the Romans. A recent book dealing with the Banca site tried to sum up the various aspects of this mining and metallurgical heritage.Les mines de Banca au Pays basque ont été anciennement exploitées pour le cuivre et l'argent. Parmi les travaux réalisés au XVIIIe siècle, on rencontre d'autres ouvrages beaucoup plus anciens, qui ont été identifiés grâce à un plan d'ensemble dressé en 1782 et représentés sur un levé effectué par une équipe de spéléologues. Ces vieux travaux, qui se singularisent par leur morphologie, furent attribués aux Romains par les Modernes. Un ouvrage récent consacré au site de Banca a tenté de faire le point sur les divers aspects de ce patrimoine minier et métallurgique.Parent Gilles.
