L'Astrologie dans l'Antiquité

This survey of classical astrology is in three parts : a) a summary of its rich and eventful history from the Babylonians to the Renaissance ; b) the methods of calcufotion which remained the same throughout the period, based on the pfanets, the zodiac and the «twelve houses» ; c) an analysis of astrological thought, which is quite different from any modern approach ; providing a rigid interpretation of the universe, it granted confort and security. It presents a curious combination of religion and science : the physics is the one forwarded by the stoics, with an equal balance of the four elements, and the microcosmic economy within the soul representing the macrocosmic one ; but such a determinism is in contradiction with the Stoics' sense of responsability which presupposes free will.Ce tour d'horizon de l'astrologie ancienne comprend : a) un précis de son histoire riche et mouvementée, des Babyloniens à la Renaissance; b) les données les plus importantes (planètes, zodiaque, les douze maisons) du calcul astrologique, qui sont restées les mêmes ; c) les méthodes principales utilisées par les astrologues ; assez éloignées des voies habituelles de notre pensée discursive, elles aboutissent à un schématisme figé de l'univers, dans lequel ils se sentent abrités - amalgame étrange de religion et de science dont la physique correspond à celle du stoïcisme, avec son idéal d'équilibre entre les quatre éléments, l'économie microcosmique de l'âme reproduisant celle du macrocosme ; mais un tel déterminisme est en contradiction flagrante avec le rigorisme moral des stoïciens, qui présuppose le libre arbitre.Hübner Wolfgang.
