Urbanisme et espaces monumentaux à Thasos

The city of Thasos is probably one of the most completely explored and published among antique cities. Well known are the different living districts, the walls, the main sanctuaries, the monumental center, the ports. The historical interpretation of these important archaeological remains can lean on a very complete epigraphic corpus. Thasos constitutes therefore a paradigmatic site for the questions, nowadays widely discussed, about the first colonial settlements and their relationship with the indigenous sites, about the specialization of large public spaces since the beginning of the fifth century B. C, about the equipment and monumentalisation of the principal civic institutions, about big evergetic constructions of the Hellenistic period, about the impact of Romanization and so on …La ville de Thasos est probablement une des villes antiques les plus complètement explorées et publiées. Y sont connus plusieurs quartiers d’habitation, l’enceinte, les principaux sanctuaires, le centre monumental, les ports, etc. L’interprétation historique de ces importants vestiges archéologiques peut s’appuyer sur un corpus épigraphique très complet. C’est dire que Thasos constitue un site paradigmatique pour les questions aujourd’hui très débattues des premières implantations coloniales et de leurs rapports avec les sites indigènes, de la spécialisation des grands espaces publics à partir du début du Ve siècle, de l’équipement et de la monumentalisation des principales institutions civiques, des grandes constructions évergétiques de l’époque hellénistique, de l’impact de la romanisation, etc.Marc Jean-Yves.
