The dynamic that was created by the concept of sustainable development in the aftermath of the Rio Conference is indiscutable. Nevertheless, equally indisputable is its exceptionally wide, often ambiguous and surely not easily definable content. Based on this assumption, the principal question is posited as follows : does the principle of sustainable development have a regulatory context, can it therefore be a legal principle with absolutely binding content ? The answer to the question is a negative one. Firstly, the present article identifies important equivalences between sustainable development and, the so-called, strategic planning, as the later is formed in recent years, under influence by the European Spatial development Perspective. ...
