From Begwena to Lasta centre and periphery in the ethiopian Kingdom from the 13rd to the 16th Century ; Lāstā maybe was the capital region of the Christian kingdom of Ethiopia during the reign of the Zāgwē dynasty. With the fall of this dynasty, the region totally lost its central position. So that until the 17th century its name is never mentioned in the royal chronicles. However recent publications on the churches of Lāstā and Angot point out that Lāstā was a political stake when Yekuno Amlak seized the power in the 13th century.
