Care-Policy in the Era Merkel: Family Policy and Long-Term Care Policy Between Tradition and Transformation This contribution focuses on care policy under chancellor Merkel. By using the analytical concept of (de-)familialization, continuities and path shifts in the area of childcare and elderly care are examined. In doing so, we expand the concept of (de-)familialization to include traditional and transformative equality effects. It can be shown that the relevant family and care policy reforms between 2005 and 2021 include both transformative and traditional (de-)familializing measures, with the former clearly dominating in childcare.
