Le marché d'intérêt national de Toulouse

The organization and functions of the national wholesale market of edibles in Toulouse. This market was established in 1964 in the northern outskirts of Toulouse, as the previous one could not be maintained down town ; it provides the retailers of the whole region with fruit, vegetables and other edibles that are redistributed from its premises. The total amount of goods which are transiting through this market where the prices are defined in accordance with the national daily trends has constantly increased since the beginning of its operation ; these goods are dispatched all over the Midi Pyrénées region and the Aude, i. e. the closest department lying east of the latter ; the major part of these goods (64 %) is collected in a nation wide range when there is a decrease of imported oversea and foreign goods (36 %). Considering this market at a larger scale, it is clear that its functions and rules experimented slow changes which favored the more skilful wholesalers ; it is clear also that this market, originally devoted to the trade of fruit and vegetables, is less specialized nowadays since new trades joined in and new kinds of edibles, such as fish and dairy products enlarged its range.Le Marché d'intérêt national de Toulouse, installé depuis sa création, en 1964, à la sortie nord de la ville, à Lalande, assure la redistribution des fruits et légumes dans la région. Les tonnages de denrées traitées ont constamment augmenté. L'aire desservie demeure stable : elle couvre la région Midi-Pyrénées et une partie de l'Aude. Mais les apports sont de plus en plus d'origine nationale (64 %) tandis que diminuent les flux de marchandises d'outre-mer et de l'étranger. Les structures internes de fonctionnement ont peu évolué. Les grossistes les mieux organisés s'imposent dans le marché. De nouvelles activités commerciales apparaissent (produits laitiers, poissonnerie) qui transforment le marché d'intérêt national en un marché de gros alimentaire général.Djelal Nadia.
