On some appraisals about the social stata and types of agricultural farms in France. The authors explain that the usual typologies of farms, generally based upon trivial criteria such as the size, the production system, etc., should be considered as irrelevant. They review also various economists' standpoints ; these incorporated the family structure, the farm's relations, their commercial and economic challenges, and defined more sophisticated socio-economic types which do not satisfy the authors' expectations and needs.
