The establishment of major events leading to the elimination of the emperor Gallienus (September 268) must pass through the examination of all the years 267 and 268, when intersect the conflict with the Gallic Empire, the Gothic invasion in the Balkans and in the Aegean sea, and finally Aureolus’s revolt. The data of numismatics relating to the functioning of the mint of Milan as well as to the choice of images in exceptional circumstances, show that the revolt ofAureolus is prior to January 1st 268, and that the references to Hercules would relate rather to the struggle of Gallienus against the Goths.
