The Cyropaedia of Xenophon is a kind of “mirror” for princes and an educational novel for the elites and for all cultivated people who might find a model in it. Cyrus and Persia actually served as models in antiquity and continued to do so in 17th and 18th century Europe (in the novels by the Scudérys and in Ramsay’s Voyages de Cyrus). The axiological vocabulary used in the Cyropaedia and the study of Cyrus’ speeches in particular show how the ideal model of Xenophon became a kind of mould for the Greek novel, particularly with the expression Eros sophistes and the analysis of the principal qualities of Cyrus presented in the episodes with Panthea and Abradates.La Cyropédie de Xénophon est une sorte de « miroir des Princes » et un roman d’é...
