The Agreement on the Conservation of African - Eurasian Migratory Waterbirds, which was adopted at The Hague on 16 June 1995, is the first major agreement concided under the Bonn Convention on the conservation of migratory species. It constitutes an important step forward in comparison with the other legal instruments on the subject at present in force. Indeed, for the first time a treaty will make it possible to protect waterbird populations throughout their range and all along their migration routes. Moreover, the Agreement does not only provide for the protection of migratory waterbirds but also for their management and for the conservation of their habitats.
