The lack of interest in figurative subjects and narrative content in La Tène art has been frequently noted. Contrastingly, Hallstatt art is remarkable for its liking for the picturesque and for its realism : accordingly the evolution of decorative art during the Iron Age seems at first sight to be characterized by a major discontinuity at the beginning of the La Tène period. All of the regions within the Celtic world did not however participate to the same degree in the new artistic fashions. The eastern zone is simultaneously marked during Early La Tène by the widespread use of motifs in the orientalising tradition and by the frequent occurrence of anthropomorphic representations.
