Umbaúba arqueológica: entendendo um passado por trás do município

In wanting to understand the past of a society, we realized that the archaeological heritage attached to it, arises from the sum of different cultures that one day have lived in a particular region. However, the mere notion of the existence of this evidence, sometimes it is not enough to create an identity link between the past of a place and the current population that is what brings us to the city of Umbaúba - SE and its real lack of knowledge about the history its territory. Aiming to enhance the cultural heritage forgotten by the community, this research proposes to prospect the umbaubense territory, in order to identify sites of archaeological potential, until then, unknown by other archaeology professionals, considering the still little archaeological initiative in Sergipe. Making use of popular knowledge and the sparse documentation that refers to this municipality, we make use of a non-interventional and unsystematic prospection, which identified sites that had contributed to its importance and distinct occupations that occurred over time. Among them are: the Boa Hora Farm, with traces of a lithic pre-colonial site (polishing marks and/or sharpening tools amidst the rocks from Itamirim River), as well as ruins of the old sugar Mill Boa Hora and aqueducts that helped in its operation during the nineteenth century; the residence of the antique Campinhos Farm possibly related contexts of the nineteenth century; and the Pedra do Gentio, a cave described once, as indigenous shelter and another one used for rituals of African culture. From this, we have confirmed the municipal archaeological potential with a satisfactory outcome, although the diagnosis of the sites occurred only in a superficial way, conducting studies and fitting them for a period ahead.Ao querer entender o passado de uma sociedade, percebemos que o patrimônio arqueológico ligado a mesma, é decorrente da soma de diferentes culturas que um dia habitaram numa determinada região. Todavia, a simples noção da existência dessas evidências, as vezes, não é suficiente para se criar um vínculo identitário entre o passado local e a população vigente, o que nos remete ao município de Umbaúba - SE e sua real deficiência no conhecimento sobre a história do seu território. Visando enaltecer a herança cultural, esquecida pela comunidade, esta pesquisa se propôs a prospectar o território umbaubense, afim de identificar locais de potencial arqueológico, até então, desconhecidos por outros profissionais da área, tendo em vista a ainda pouca iniciativa de arqueólogos em Sergipe. Valendo-se do conhecimento popular e da documentação escassa que faz referência ao município, utilizamo-nos de uma prospecção assistemática não interventiva, a qual identificou locais que tiveram sua importância e contribuíram para que distintas ocupações ocorressem ao longo do tempo. Dentre eles estão: a Fazenda Boa Hora, com vestígios de um sítio pré-colonial lítico (caracterizado por marcas de polimento e/ou afiação de instrumentos em meios a rochas do rio Itamirim), como também ruínas do antigo Engenho Boa Hora e do aquedutos que ajudavam no seu funcionamento, durante o século XIX; a residência da antiga Fazenda Campinhos, possivelmente relacionada com contextos do século XIX; e a Pedra do Gentio, uma caverna descrita em determinada época, como abrigo indígena e em outra utilizada para rituais da cultura afro. A partir disso, tivemos a confirmação do potencial arqueológico municipal com um desfecho satisfatório, apesar de que o diagnóstico dos sítios se deu apenas de forma superficial, cabendo-lhes para um período adiante, a realização de estudos mais aprofundados.Laranjeiras, S
