The Reagan administration has taken unprecedented steps toward dismantling the American antitrust laws. It has appointed agency heads and judges that reflect its conservative, laissez-faire vision of economic affairs. Both the Federal Trade Commission and the Justice Department have drastically curtailed enforcement in all areas except horizontal price fixing. If the Congress fails to restrain the Executive, the Supreme Court alone will determine the future course of the law. With five of its nine members over age 10, the President elected in 1984 will determine the composition of the Court.
