The commented and illustrated presentation of a collection of 46 Greek or Greek-type lamps mainly concerns the production of the Vth c. B.C. The Attic imports represent two thirds of the specimens from this century and more than half of those from the IVth c. B.C. This collection, relatively large for Southern France, has incited the author to present an inventory of the contemporary specimens known in Southern France, the Spanish East Coast, in Italy down to Sicily, and beyond to the Punic world in North Africa. The development of the use of lamps around the Mediterranean from the beginning of the Vth c. supposes the availability of burning oil. But the presence of lamps and the appearance of olive growing do not necessarily run parallel. ...
