Les anneaux du Néolithique bas-normand et du nord-Sarthe : production, circulation et territoires

From the great corpus of archaeological pieces from Basse-Normandie we propose to examine the consumption – manufacture, use and spread – of early Neolithic stone rings. Firstly, we present the typology, fabrication methods and petrographic analysis results, visible to the naked eye and in thin sections, which reveal the stones used by the Neolithic craftsmen. Secondly, the results will be compared with the intention of understanding the role of the stone materials in the choice of the various shaping techniques and in the typology. Then a geographical factor, enabling the analysis of the rings’ distribution, depending on their typology and material, the location of the workplace and the system of exchanges, is introduced. We also analyse other raw materials in order to understand the exchange systems. All the information reveals the complexity of the exchange system : there are several systems, several sites each with a different status, and several territories. Finally, we synthesize the chronological aspects which reveal an evolution in the rings’ form and in production methods.À partir du corpus conséquent de pièces issues de Basse-Normandie, nous proposons de cerner les modalités de la fabrication, de l’utilisation et de la diffusion des anneaux en pierre à la fin du Néolithique ancien. Dans un premier temps sont présentés la typologie, les méthodes de confection ainsi que les résultats d’une analyse pétrographique (lames minces) caractérisant les roches utilisées par les artisans néolithiques. Le croisement de toutes ces informations tente, dans un second temps, de mettre en avant les déterminismes des matériaux sur les techniques de façonnage et sur la forme des anneaux. Puis est introduit un facteur géographique qui permet d’analyser la répartition des anneaux en fonction de leur typologie et du matériau dans lequel ils sont confectionnés. L’ensemble permet d’entrevoir la localisation des activités de production, les réseaux de circulation et l’existence de territoires. Pour mieux appréhender ces réseaux, d’autres objets, et donc d’autres matières premières, sont également pris en compte. Toutes ces informations laissent entrevoir l’imbrication de différents réseaux véhiculant des biens par l’intermédiaire de sites aux statuts divers et sur des échelles spatiales variables. Enfin est synthétisé l’ensemble des éléments chronologiques trahissant aussi bien une évolution dans la forme des pièces que dans les méthodes de production.Fromont Nicolas.
