Abstract. - The study of intertropical soils has cast a wholly new light on pedological research. These soils were thought at first to be very uniform. Their diversity was discovered through detailed studies within the frame of drainage basins, making use of new techniques too, such as the study of microstructures. Going farther than the examination of individual soil profiles, one can recognize their interrelations along local relief forms and understand the factors which contribute to their spatial organisation.Résumé.
