Pratique religieuse et église constitutionnelle. Le cas de Dengremont, curé de Sin-le-Noble, 1 791-1801

B. Lefebvre, Religious observance and Constitutional Church, the case of Dengremont, vicar of Sin-le-Noble, 1791-1801. This is the quantitative survey of the records of the baptisms to which the sworn-in vicar proceeded between 1795 and 1801. Dengremont seems to have been a vicar of low origins who saw in his support of the Constitutional Church a kind of promotion ; his parish was a village of relatively poor peasants in the neighbourhood of Douai. The comparison between the total number of child-births and that of the baptisms performed by the vicar shows that he baptized on the whole 57% of the children, the yearly figures undergoing the following evolution : 1795 : 68% ; 1796 : 80% ; 1797 : 82§ ; 1798 : 72§ ;1799 : 80% ; 1800 : 66§ ; 1801 : 26§ ; 1802 : 10§. The decline of his activity is in keeping with the general decline of religious observance under the Revolution but it is particularly interesting to note his influence (comparable to that of his friend Caille's in Douai) which demonstrates that parishioners were more readily responsive to the established, though schismatic, hierarchy than to beliefs in particular points of dogma.Il s'agit de l'étude quantitative du registre des baptêmes célébrés par ce curé "jureur" de 1795 à 1801. Dengremont semble avoir été un prêtre d'origine modeste dont l'adhésion à l'Église Constitutionnelle fut une forme de promotion ; sa paroisse était un village de paysans relativement pauvres à proximité de Douai. La comparaison entre le nombre de naissances et celui des actes célébrés par le curé montre qu'il a baptisé 57% des enfants selon l'évolution suivante : 1795 : 68 § ; 1796 : 80% ; 1797 : 82% ; 1798 : 72% ; 1799 : 80% ; 1800 : 66% ; 1801 : 26% ; 1802 : 10%. Le déclin de son activité est conforme à la baisse de la pratique religieuse sous la Révolution mais il est surtout intéressant de noter son rayonnement (comparable à celui de son collègue Caille à Douai), démontrant ainsi que les paroissiens furent plus sensibles au rôle de la hiérarchie en place, même schismatique, qu'à une conception particulière de la foi.B. Voor Dengremont, die van nederige afkomst was, stond de opname in de staatskerk gelijk met sociale promotie : zijn parochie bestond uit een tamelijk arm boerendorpje in de buurt van Douai. De vergelijking van het geboortecijfer en het aantal dopen toont aan dat hij 57F van de kinderen doopte. De evolutie verliep als volgt : 1795 : 68§ ; 1796 : 80% ; 1797 : 82% ; 1798 : 72% ; 1799 : 801% : 1800 : 66% ; 1801 : 26% ; 1802 : 10%. De teruggang komt overeen met de daling in de religieuze praktijk tijdens het regime van de revolutie. Intéressant is de uitstraling van zijn kerk (te vergelijken met zijn coÙega Caille te Douai) wat erop wijst dat de parochianen gevoeliger waren voor de roi van de hiérarchie ter plaatse, zelfs als ze in schisma leefde, dan voor een welbepaalde geloofsovertuiging.Lefebvre Bernard.
