The De verborum significatione by Festus is transmitted by the manuscript IV A 3 of the Biblioteca Nazionale in Naples. When it was discovered in the fifteenth century, the manuscript was already damaged. In the years that followed, it would lose quires VIII, X and XVI. For these quires, the editors of Festus have relied onf fifteenth-century humanist copies, only two of which preserve all three of the quires that have been lost since the discovery of F : Vol. lot. 1549 (X) and Vat. lot 3369 (W).
