Abstract. - The water in Western Desert (depression of Kharga, Egypt). The region makes part the Western Desert (Egypt). Hyperaride and strewn of somes oasis, this region has been densely occupied during the Antiquity, as certify the irrigation of the fields and the sites of habitat (Tell-Douch, 'Ayn Manawir, etc.). The remote sensing in the solar spectrum and the microwave remote allows to reconstitute the landscape composition : superficial sediment of hydric and aeolian origin, dissection of paleodrainages. A cartography of the depression is first undertaken with the help of Spot images and the radiometric data on the soil. A cartography of the paleorivers, nearly invisible in the solar spectrum because partly sandburied, is then underta...
