Abstract. - Thanks to early modernization : cutting the number of small shops and increasing the total selling-surface, reinforcing the traditional selling areas and outer breakthroughs, the «Coopérative Régionale de Saintes» managed to survive after the collapse of the cooperative retailing sector. Within ten years, the Coop went from a booming stage to a new deployment, then, to a concentration of its efforts these last two years by means of severe cuts in the marginal part of the commercial network, loosening it paying more attention to the clients' mobility than to nearby stores, without deserting the country however.Résumé. - La coopérative régionale de Saintes a survécu à la débâcle du secteur commercial coopératif grâce à une modernisation engagée tôt. En dix ans la Coop passe d'une phase d'expansion à un redéploiement, puis, depuis deux ans, à une concentration des efforts : coupes sévères dans le réseau commercial marginal, sans abandonner la campagne, desserrement en privilégiant la mobilité de la clientèle plutôt que la proximité des magasins.Soumagne Jean.
