Abstract. - Cultural geography which analyzes the cultural practices as well as the social and cultural representations of the actors in the making of a landscape or in the spatial organization of a city requires a specific kind of fieldwork. However a 2006 survey conducted among French researchers showed a limited interest in the fieldwork. Hence the need for a theory of the fieldwork in cultural geography if one want to avoid the assimilation of cultural geography by "cultural studies ".Résumé. - La géographie culturelle qui analyse les pratiques culturelles ainsi que les représentations sociales et culturelles des acteurs pour expliquer un paysage ou encore l'organisation spatiale d'une ville exige un travail de terrain. Toutefois une enquête menée en 2006 auprès de chercheurs français souligne leur faible intérêt pour le travail de terrain.
