Starting from some time about a millenium ago and continuing for several centuries, the Jewish community of Cairo disposed of its worn-out literary texts by placing them in the Geniza. Due to the dry Egyptian climate, this large and ancient storehouse of manuscripts was preserved intact until its discovery towards the end of the last century when it was dispersed among many different libraries throughout the world. Of the Geniza manuscripts, the palimpsests are among the oldest. An attempt has been made here to gather and to list all this material and to evaluate the finds.
