La place de la Chine dans l’intégration monétaire et financière asiatique

China’s Role in Asian Monetary and Financial Integration. China plays a key role in Asian regional integration, serving as an export platform for the region towards the rest of the world. In this respect, China has been instrumental in the development of intraregional trade. Since 2010, the use of the Chinese currency for trade settlement and the implementation of the China-ASEAN Free Trade Agreement further cement China’s leading role in the region. In the monetary and financial realm, China has participated in different regional initiatives including the Chiang Mai Initiative and the Asian Bond Funds. However, China’s contributions to both remain low compared to its huge foreign exchange reserves. Its support of regional integration in Asia remains thus symbolic. Overall, China remains more interdependent with Hong Kong than with the rest of the region. Its increasing trade and financial links with Hong Kong serve as a stepping stone towards its regional integration and in the end towards its world integration. Elle est devenue la plate-forme des échanges commerciaux de la zone avec le reste du monde. Depuis 2010, l’utilisation du renminbi comme monnaie de règlement pour les transactions commerciales de la Chine et l’entrée en vigueur de l’accord de libre échange entre la Chine et les pays de l’ASEAN ne font qu’entériner l’influence de la Chine dans la zone. Sur les plans monétaire et financier, la Chine participe aux différentes initiatives régionales (Chiang Mai Initiative et Fonds Obligataires Asiatiques) mais les montants en jeu restent modestes à son échelle. Au final, son soutien au processus d’intégration régionale reste symbolique. La Chine reste avant tout davantage intégrée avec Hong Kong qu’avec le reste de l’Asie, et se sert de Hong Kong pour faciliter son intégration régionale et in fine son intégration mondiale.
