The Changing Role of Law in Revolutionary Cuba The legal profession in Cuba has evolved to a position of considérable prestige and importance during the past decade. This reversal reflects a change in attitude towards law and legal processes that sharply contrasts to the early 1960s when the government centralized State authority in political bodies and stripped legal institutions of their autonomy. This change began witn the political and economic restructuring which began in the 1970s and has giyen rise to a process of democratization and decentralization.
